Title: When the Dead Rise
Description: During the Blackest Night stories of the DC Universe, not only is their world affected, so is the world of Star Wars. When the dead start rising, the Jedi and Sith must battle unknown forces and end this before the War of Light comes to their world and changes all they know.
Chapter 1-A New Dusk
At the end of the battle, Hal Jordan-the first human Green Lantern-sighed as he looked at the carcasses that coated the floor. While the Sun shone, all else below it was dark and gloomy.
He guessed this is what happened when the Dead rose from their graves and attacked.
It wasn’t at all like the zombie movies he watched when he was younger-or even now. It was serious, scary, and heartbreaking. Seeing all her cared about having died was terrible, and now it was a worse because he was the one who put them down.
Flash (Barry Allen) put a hand on his shoulder and Hal sighed. “I don’t know what to think anymore, Flash.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean all of this…” He sighed once more “Having seen their funerals, having watched most of them die...and now seeing some back but having to...to kill the rest of them by my own ring...it doesn’t feel right.”
“I don’t think its supposed to, Hal.” Flash whispered gently, as so the civvies near-by wouldn’t hear. Hal nodded and his posture straightened, showing the Flash he was swallowing this Fear.
“I’m just glad that this is all over.” He said, not noticing the Black streak of light leaving the Earth and going off somewhere else.
A whole other Universe away, Grand Master Yoda meditated as another headache came upon him. These have occurred frequently for the past few weeks. While such a short amount of time meant nothing for a person who has been rumored to have lived a century, it still wasn’t pleasant.
This time, the headache came with a scene. The scene was terrifying, and Yoda soon found himself within it.
The ground below him was muddy and damp, and the swamp before him was murky. It seemed the Gungans had ceased their care of the wildlife on the planet. Naboo.
In the back, he heard the growling and the screaming of tortured people. Yoda turned and ran towards it, the Force aiding him in his speed. He arrived and saw a village completed ransacked, the people laid about, their deaths fresh.
Yoda noticed a young Gungan girl laying there, gasping for air, and he ran to her. He held her hand, in a compassionate manner, and he asked “Little one! Happened here, what did?”
The girl coughed up her blood, staining the robes he wore, and she whispered “M-Mista...Mista H-Hand...did…”
“Mister Hand?” Yoda asked in confusion before the girl gasped and cringed in pain.
“H-He promised us...n-new life…” She coughed more and cried before she whispered “New life...” And she passed on in his arms.
“Little one?” He asked once more before he frowned and laid her down, closing her eyes. As he stood, he looked and noticed descending black flickers of lights go near the bodies. He watched as one came particularly close and rested upon the girl’s middle finger.
Before he could think, a group of Gungans-who had skin of grey, pupilless eyes, and decaying bodies-cornered him and the little girl who just died in his arms lingered up in front of him. She smiled and held up the hand with the light, and she said “New life.”
They all attacked.
Yoda opened his wide green eyes and looked up. There stood Mace Windu with Healer Luminara Unduli. Both members of the Jedi Council.
Yoda stood and he lumbered out of his room, leaning against his cane as he walked “Come, come, meeting. Emergency one. Dark, dark vision, I had.”
“Master Yoda,” Unduli stopped him “You’re pale, Master, are you not well? Perhaps you need to be brought to the Healing Wing…”
“No! No time, must hurry. Emergency meeting, call others.” He stated as he lumbered on, going as fast as he could without tiring him or the Force out.
“Yes Master.” Both stated before they bowed. They looked to each other with worried expressions before they went to gather the rest of the Council for the meeting.
Anakin Skywalker sighed and he rolled over, hearing his com go off like a bantha. He looked at the chrono beside the table. 0348. 3 in the morning. Who in the name of the Force would be calling him at this early hour?
“Master, I swear to the Force, if you do not answer I will get a squadron to hunt you down.”
Oh scath, it was Ahsoka. He sighed and grabbed it, muting it momentarily before leaving his wife’s bed and heading into the opposite room, as to not disturb her sleep.
He answered “Morning to you too, Snips.”
“Yeah yeah yeah morning morning, now hurry up and get over here. We have an emergency ,imeeting with the Council.”.
He groaned and he rubbed his eyes “So urgent that its 3 in the morning and I need to interrupt my sleep to see them?”
“I feel the same, Master, but Master Yoda says its urgent.”
He sighed and he nodded “Alright, I’ll be right over, Snips.”
“So you’ll be late by 5 minutes again?”
He chuckled and said “Have some faith, Snips. You know I’m always on time.”
That brought a laugh out of her and he hung up, smiling a bit before he sighed once more. He walked back and saw Padme sitting up, her long, curly hair hanging on her back. With the Coruscant moon giving her a lovely glow around her, she looked beautiful. Well, more beautiful than she usually does.
“Ani? What is it? What’s wrong?”
“Council meeting.” He sighed and kissed her forehead “I’m sorry, Ahsoka said it was urgent. You know I’d stay but-”
“Ani, its okay.” She kissed him gently before she smiled “Now go, I don’t want you getting in trouble with your padawan.”
He chuckled and kissed her once more, lingering on her lips before he smiled “I love you.”
“I love you too. Now go, Anakin! Or I’ll get C3P0 to escort you.”
“I’m going I’m going!” He said, hurrying up to gather his clothing before he rushed out of the apartment.
In silence, the vacuum of space pulled and pushed the glowing black light back and forth. It tried to urge itself to its destination, to a new world.
It would not fail.
The light shot into the nearest wormhole, which swirled and glittered with colors of different shadings as well as the flames of stars. The light ignored them and it went through quick, the light sending down onto a planet of green and blue...but it landed in brown.
In the murky, mucky brown it sunk, until it caught onto a skeletal frame and clung to it. Brightly, the light exploded like a bomb and caught the attention of a nearby local.
The local approached, cautious, and looked in, before a man rose from the brown mud and he smiled, the garb of black surrounding him as well as his crumbling skin, his ribs showing. He smiled at the local, who stated in fear, before he grabbed her neck and squeezed, and squeezed, and-
Her body went limp as he held her up in his hand. He chuckled and opened his mouth, more black lights emitting before one landed upon her hand’s finger. He smiled and whispered close to her ear “New life…”
Her eyes shot open before they turned black and lifeless, and she smiled.
